The thoughts of a library professional who is a firm believer in Sir Terry Pratchett's l-space dimension. I am currently testing the theory "in library space no one can hear you scream" and see librarianship as both a serious profession and a great spectator sport.
This is rather typical of the area bearing in mind the shenanigans going on in Hampshire County Libraries. When will politicians learn that information has to be accessible to all and by closing such libraries is tantamount to social exclusion to those unable to get to other ones for whatever reason.
Way to go El Presidente; see my new post on the extension to Frewen Library. Pressure is mounting all the time against the philosophy of cutting library services as a first priority in balancing the books.
As an update - the proposal to close Cobbbett Road Library was thrown out at the budget meeting on Wednesday. Proposals going forward for Southampton include changes to opening hours and yet another cut of the book fund. I also believe David was misquoted in the article which makes it appear that he doesn't care about elderly people going to the library. I always find the whole budget process very frustrating, proposals for cuts have to be put forward months in advance and then staff have months of uncertainty and worry. Surely there must be a better way...
